Hello! I’m Jundae C. Abarcar, a student from Pangasinan State University-Bayambang and taking up Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Mathematics.
In my blog, I ASSURE you that you will learn and enjoy. LET’S START!
In this lesson you will be able to know what ASSURE means.
ASSURE model is an instructional model for planning a lesson and the technology that will enhance it. This model is also design to help learners effectively integrate media/ technology into the teacher or presentation.
According to Angela E. Megaw of University of Georgia “It is a very logical and simple design model. Despite or maybe due to that simplicity it is a very powerful and practical model. Created to be a “procedural guide for planning and conducting instruction that incorporates media” (Heinich et al., 31) Heinich, Molenda, Russell and Smaldino’s ASSURE model incorporates Gagné’s events of instruction (Gagné, 1985)”.
This model is composed of six essential steps in planning instruction. Theoretically, it is a mental framework that a teacher considers.
Analyze Learners
State Objectives
Selects Methods, Media and Material
Utilize Methods, Media and Material
Require Learner Participation
Evaluate Students Performance
Analyze Learners.
Who are you teaching? Where are they in the learning process? What are their Learning Styles? What do you want your learners to do?
The ASSURE model is learner centered. It focuses on the learner’s general characteristics, identifies specific entry competencies required and evaluates learning styles. It is vital to assess the dynamics of the learners and their interactions before selecting methods and media. A superficial analysis of general characteristics such as age and culture can provide quite a bit of guidance in selecting instructional methods and media.
State Objectives.
Learner (Who), Behavior (What to do), Type of Learning (Affective, Cognitive), What do you want the learners to do?
Once you know your students, you can begin writing the objectives of your lesson. Objectives are the learning outcomes, that is, what will the students get out of the lesson?
Heinich et al., uses the formula of ABCD to create well-stated objectives.
A = Audience
B = Behavior
C = Condition
D = Degree
The ABCD’s of writing objectives are:
-Audience (who are your students?)
-Behavior to demonstrate
-Conditions under which the behavior will be observed
-Degree to which the learned skills are to be mastered.
Select Methods Media and Materials.
Learning Styles methods, audio, videos, small groups, flip charts, computers, etc.
Once you know your students and have a clear idea of what they should get out of the lesson, then you are ready to select the:
Instructional method that you feel is most appropriate to meet the objectives for these particular students.
Media that would be best suited to work with your instructional method, the objectives,
and your students. Media could be text, still images. video, audio, and computer multimedia,
Materials that provide your students with the help they need in mastering the objectives.
Materials might be purchased and use as is or they might need some modification. You can also design and create your own materials for the students to use. Material would be specific software programs, music, videotapes, images, but would also be equipment, i.e., overhead projector, computer, printer, scanner, TV laserdisc player, VRC, and so on.
